JUPITER has currently provided a value addition to an existing carton box pasting machine for one of our clients. The main agenda was to increase the speed of the machine, which currently is a maximum of 5,000 cartons/hr. The main reason for this speed limitation, is the use of pneumatic cylinders for aligning the carton boxes after pasting. With pneumatic cylinders, it takes time for the solenoid to get activated, pressure to build and then for the cylinders to get activated. All these cause a few extra milliseconds, which can be crucial in effecting the speed of the machine.
JUPITER proposed the use of a low inertia servo motor, for this aligning process. The proposed system will not disturb any existing electrical or mechanical system in the machine. This will be a stand alone unit which can be fitted to the machine when needed. By using a high speed servo motor, instead of normal pneumatic solenoid, the speed of the machine is 10,800 cartons/hour (video attached) during last trials, and there is still scope to increase the speed to 15,000 cartons/hour.
The key features in the scope of supply are as follows
• Supply of separate Rittal enclosure for all the electrical components, which can be fitted to the machine
• The system uses Siemens PLC alone with 4” multicolour touchscreen
• The precise aligning was achieved by using high speed servo motor and drive
• The servo drive positioning was controlled from the PLC using pulse train outputs
• With Servo Arm for aligning, even speeds of 16,000 cartons per hour was achieved
